Speaker and Author, Barbara Arbo

Like many other mothers, I experienced the joy of reading to my children from a book called True Confessions For Children. In time, each of my kids learned to read it for themselves. So of course, I considered it an honor to illustrate Barbara Arbo's revised version of True Confessions For Children titled Scriptures For Kids.   Below, she shares the story behind the book.

Melissa Ross

I first put this book together in 1981, the year I birthed my first son.  Isaiah 59:21 speaks of the covenant that God has made with us for our children...that the Word of God that lives in our heart and does not depart from our mouth will not depart from the mouth of our children.  I knew it was important for my children to have the Word of God planted in their hearts, and this was the place I started.  I called it TRUE CONFESSIONS FOR CHILDREN, and rated it PG, because every Word of God is true, and Parental Guidance is necessary to train our children in the way they should go to ensure that even when they are old, they won't depart from it.

I would speak these confessions with my two year old each night, as soon as he began forming words.  He'd repeat, "I a disciple, taught 'Yord", great peace, disturb posure".  I found that before he was old enough to read, he could "read" the pictures and quote the scriptures verbatim.  My second son was born when my first was 8.  He would tell me sometimes, "mom, you'd better correct Matthew while there is hope, lest you be ashamed of him."  He was speaking God's Word to me.

I couldn't have been more thrilled when Melissa approached me, and offered her gift to update the illustrations and get the book back in print.  Now, a grandmother, I look forward to reading these confessions with my grandchildren, and sowing the seed of God's Word into their hearts.
