My picture book, Today I Am A Penguin has finally been released.  Author Penelope Cole reviews it on her blog: http://penelopeannecole.blogspot.com

I wrote this story about six or seven years ago in response to a request by an editor of a small children's book company.  I was asked to weave science curriculum into an imaginative story, and in his words," it would be best if it were a fantasy too, like maybe have a character turn into something else."  So with these guidelines, I wrote and rewrote and rewrote Today I Am A Penguin.  The company had internal issues and folded as I was working on the illustrations.  I was bummed but I also knew the publishing business is a roller coaster ride.  The story sat and sat as I wrote many more stories.  Finally, I decided to send it off to Guardian Angel Publishing feeling that it might fit in their Academic Wings imprint.  And so it did!   I had to redo or change many of the illlustrations because the book size and layout were completely different than the original.  It was challenging going back after so many years.  My style and technique had changed somewhat as well as my writing.   But now, after so long, my hope is that children will enjoy the adventure and learn through the wonderful gift of imagination what it just might feel like to be an Adelie penguin in Antarctica.
